This ebook provides instructions for two matching patterns: Shallows Cowl/Scarf and Shallows Mitts.
Shallows Cowl/Scarf
The pattern offers two options: scarf or cowl. Both versions are worked flat from one end to the other; the cowl is grafted.
Blocked Dimensions
Cowl: 7 inches/18 cm wide by 52 inches/132 cm long
Scarf: 7 inches/18 cm wide by 54 inches/137 cm long
Level of difficulty: Advanced beginner.
Techniques: stockinette stitch, garter stitch, yarnovers, ssk, k2tog, placing beads, and (for the cowl version) a provisional cast-on and grafting.
The stitch pattern is given in written form and in a chart.
The scarf requires 102 #6 seed beads; the cowl 96. The pattern includes instructions for placing beads and links to online tutorials for grafting.
The beads may be omitted: knit the stitch instead of placing a bead on it.
Shallows Mitts
Blocked Dimensions
7 inches/17.5 cm wide by 7.25 inches/18 cm long (before seaming, measured at widest point)
Level of difficulty: Advanced beginner.
Techniques: stockinette stitch, garter stitch, yarnovers, ssk, k2tog, placing beads, and seaming
Yardage: 135 yards of fingering weight yarn.

The mitts require 16 #6 seed beads. The pattern includes instructions for placing beads.
The beads may be omitted: knit the stitch instead of placing a bead on it.
