This is a perfect pattern for a beginner to start knitting hats!

Sizing is available for everyone from newborns to adult men.

The pattern begins with a simple “my first hat” version of a toddler hat with a ribbed brim, an easy decrease method, and a drawstring hat -- the most common type of beanie. This easy version is a wonderful introduction to hat knitting, with ample explanation of every step and of instructions that the knitter will commonly see in other patterns.

From there, the pattern gives the knitter multiple choices -- 4 sizes, 2 different brims, 3 possible decrease methods, and 3 types of top finishes. These choices will allow the knitter to use this one pattern to create many different looks, for every member of the family.

Quick note: if you are in my hat knitting class at iPurl in The Woodlands, Texas, don’t buy this pattern! It’s free with your tuition.
