Hi I’m Becka is a crochet designer and yarn addict from Suffolk, who creates modern crochet and knit patterns, inspiring people to think differently about their own waste. By showing them how to create beautiful things from items often thought of as waste.

I am the face of Renee & Burt, and discovered my love for making things back at University when studying Graphic Design with Illustration at the University of Hertfordshire when I learnt how to knit and crochet.

​After graduating, I worked in the design industry for over 8 years designing and marketing for a few companies. By day I work as a communications professional for the NHS and by night I design crochet patterns. I have been very lucky to have designed for Mollie Makes, Simply Crochet and Be Kind magazine.

I am obsessed with crocheting and knitting, and spend most of my spare time creating patterns and experimenting with different textures and materials. It was from my love for nature and wildlife, and passion for all things yarn based that lead me to create Renee & Burt.

​The name Renee & Burt were the names of my great grandparents and where my initial interest for handmade items was sparked. I remember my great nanna knitting and crocheting me and my dolls clothes and blankets. So the name felt like the perfect fit.

I loves taking things that are considered ‘rubbish’ and making them something beautiful either to wear or display in the home. Giving them a second life and saving them from the landfill brings a big smile to my face. My love for texture and colour is an obvious obsession, I loves experimenting and really pushing the boundaries on ways I can turn the yarn and fabric waste I rescues into new beautiful creations.

​Through my creations, patterns, blog and podcast, I hope to inspire you to think differently about your own textile waste and teach you how to make beautiful things from it for yourself and your home. I also enjoy working with designers and makers and creative businesses and helping them become zero waste, and always welcomes collaborations with talented creators.
