I’ve been a knitwear designer for over 20 years and have written or contributed to many books on hand-knitted accessories. The most recent publication is Knitstrips.

In 2020 I created five lace designs, especially for Modern Daily Knitting’s Field Guide No 15: Open which came out just a few months after Warm Hands, which I co-edited with Kate Davies and to which I also contributed a design.

My patterns have been published in magazines including The Knitter, Knitting and Laine. As a writer, I have contributed forewords to Safiyyah Talley’s Knit 2 Socks in 1, Yarningham Festival’s Yarn + Stitch and written articles for Vogue Knitting, Making Stories and Laine for which I also write my regular Fiber Talk feature.

After much online debate about the lack of diversity in the fibre industry, I created the POC Designers & Crafters list to highlight the work of people of colour in the fibre industry. This met with such an overwhelmingly positive response that in 2020, I founded BIPOC in Fiber. This is centred on a database of Black, Indigenous and People of Color working in fibre and is run by myself and alysonhere, our Web Development Director and publisher of crochet magazine Moorit.

BIPOC in Fiber is an invaluable resource that’s free to join for BIPOC businesses/artisans and free to use for everyone. We also work with publications, events organisers, yarn companies and other organisations looking to be more diverse and inclusive in their businesses.
