Knit.1 Spring/Summer 2008 #9
By Susan Haviland
SKU: K1SS08_09 (987)
Pattern description from Knit.1, Spring/Summer 2008: “Skinny stripes stack up sensationally in a quintet of ‘Soy Cotton’ colors from Sublime/KFI. Susan Haviland’s fitted tank is ribbed at the bodice - which itself is tied with a chained drawstring at the placket - and stockinette stitched on the lower body.”
Stuff:
- 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) balls in #81 Nettle (MC) in Soya Cotton by Sublime/KFI, 1¾oz/50g skeins, each approx 120yd/110m (soy/cotton)
- 1 ball each in #83 Cinnamon (A), #82 Ginseng (B), #86 Flax (C) and #89 Cucumber (D)
- Sizes 1 and 3 (2.25 and 3.25mm) circular needle 24”/60cm length or size to get the gauge
- Size 1 (2.25mm) circular needle 16”/40cm length for armhole edging
- Size F-5 (3.75mm) crochet hook
The Measurements:
- X-Small (Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large)
- Bust 26 (30, 34, 38, 42, 46)“/66 (76, 86.5, 96.5, 106.5, 117)cm (unstretched)
- Length 20 (20½, 21, 22½, 23, 23½)“/50 (52, 53.5, 57.58.5, 59.5)cm
Additional Gauge: 28 sts and 28 rows to 4”/10cm over k2, p2, rib using smaller needles.
Notes:
- Due to the nature of the rib, bust stretches to fit up to 33 (37, 41, 45, 49, 53)“/84 (94, 104, 114.5, 124.5, 134.2)cm
- Tip on working with stripes: Since the color changes happen ever row or 2, try the following to minimize the number of ends to be darned in. Do not cut the yarn at the end of the row. If the next color is attached to the other end of the work, do not turn. Slide your stitches back to the end of the needle near the yarn and either knit or purl as necessary going in the same direction as the previous row. If you just knit a row, knit another one. If you just purled, purl another one. Knit in or darn in ends as you progress.
