Japanese name: 太糸のキャップ

Tools/Materials:

  • Yarn: 95g (84m) of Hamanaka Of Course! Big in 1) 107-gray 2) 109-charcoal gray
  • Needles: 7mm (closest US size is 10½ - 6.5mm)
  • Hook: Japanese size 10/0 (6.0mm)

Schematic Notes:

  1. Use a long-tail cast on; this counts as row 1. The instructions suggest using two needles held together since row 1 should be a little loose for grafting later. (Editor’s note: Personally, I would use a provisional chain cast on, not do the bind-off at the end, and kitchener the top and bottom together.)
  2. Knit the cap according to the chart.
  3. Bind off.
  4. Graft the top and bottom rows together according to the diagram at the bottom of p.5.
  5. Make the cord for the cap top and weave it in.
  6. Cut yarn for the tassels and attach them to the cord ends using the crochet hook.
