This is a casual raglan worked in reverse stockinette stitch.

Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Summer 2007:

Mari Lynn Patrick used dressmaker details for her blouson top. The lower edges of the bodice and sleeves are pleated into folded bands, and another band finishes the wide neckline. Raglan shoulders add to the relaxed fit of the sweater, as does a nubbly cotton yarn worked in reverse stockinette stitch.

A soft-spun cotton yarn with a bumpy texture is a good choice for the 1824 Blouson. ‘I didn’t block this sweater because I wanted to preserve the rustic, handmade feeling of the yarn. It goes with the bloused shape and roomy raglan lines.

Finished Size: 34 (36½, 40½, 44, 48)“ bust circumference.

Yarn: Mission Falls 1824 Cotton (100% cotton; 84 yd [77 m]/50 g): #400 fog (light green), 12 (13, 15, 17, 18) balls. Yarn distributed by CNS Yarns.

Yarn Weight: #4 - Medium

Needles: Size 7 (4.5 mm): 24” and 16” circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Tapestry needle; large safety pins; markers (m).

Notes:

  • The measurements on the schematic are for blocking purposes and show the dimensions of the front, back, and sleeves before folding the pleats and applying the lower bands and cuffs during finishing.
  • After pleating and applying the lower bands, the lower edges of the front and back are 16 (17, 18¾, 20¾, 22½)“ wide. After pleating and applying the cuffs, the lower edge of each sleeve is 10¼ (11¼, 12¼, 12¼, 13¼)” wide.
  • The finished lower bands add about 1½“ to the length of the body, and the finished sleeve cuffs add about 1¼” to the length of each sleeve.
