1897 Seven Sisters Counterpane
This Butterick motif pattern from 1897 is worth reviving! Wrong side rows are almost all knit stitch and the left half of every row is a mirror image of the right half. The yarn overs on all four edges make sewing on an edging or more motifs easier. The motif is worked corner to corner.
I corrected several rows and updated the instructions to current U.S. knitting terms including SSK (slip 2 stitches one at a time, then knit the 2 stitches together). Skills needed are long tail cast on, knit, yarn over (YO), double YO, SSK and knit 3 together (k3tog). Slip 1, k2tog, PSSO can be substituted for k3tog. The double YOs form the 7 sisters.
The original 1897 edging is posted separately.
A 350 yard ball of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 will make about 6 to 7 motifs in the stated gauge.
