In her introduction to this pattern Edina Ronay notes that “this Fair Isle sweater, knitted in silk and wool, is a very versatile garment to own. The colourway I have used is soft and muted, in the classic colours that American Stores especially like. Changing the colourway in Fair Isles to bright colours on black, or pastels on cream produces a completely different-looking finished garment”.

The colours she chose were MC=camel, with contrast colours of moss green, chocolate, black, oatmeal, coral and donkey. Any equivalent 4ply could be subbed for the Rowan original.

The pattern includes a fair isle chart as well as written instructions, and is knitted in flat sections rather than in the round. It is a long round necked sweater with two pockets.

This book was published by Sidgewick and Jackson of London in 1988 and contained 35 handknitting designs.
