Colour blocking is still a popular trend, and this pattern allows you to choose how many colours you would like to use in a design for a lace shawl. Choose five contrasting colours for a lively project, or two tonal shades for a more muted shawl. You could knit your shawl with three colours, and I suggest three different ways of arranging those colour blocks. Or, if you prefer, the entire shawl could be made with one colour. The design incorporates several different lace stitches, so you will likely want to use solid or semi-solid shades; the exception is the contrast colour, which could be a variegated yarn that co-ordinates with all the other colours you’ve selected.

The samples are quite large, but instructions will be provided for a smaller size that still incorporates all of the colour blocks. Yarn requirements are given for the larger sample size; the smaller size will require less yarn. Full details about the yarns used in the samples are included in the introductory package.

When you purchase the pattern, you will receive an introductory package that will help you plan your project.
Instructions will be released throughout February:
Clue #1 on February1;
Clue #2 on February 8;
Clue #3 on February 15;
Clue #4 on February 22.

Complete written instructions will be provided, but the lace patterns will also be charted.

During the month of February, notion pouches will be given as prizes to three lucky knitters. To be eligible for a prize, you will need to create a project page on Ravelry, linked back to the pattern, and include at least one photo of your project in progress. Winners will be selected at random from the project pages.

This is an intermediate pattern. The techniques you will need to know, or learn, are:

  • cast on and bind-off;
  • knit and purl;
  • M1L and M1R increases;
  • yo increase;
  • k2tog decrease;
  • ssk decrease;
  • cdd double decrease.

Errata: On page 4 of Clue #4, the charts are incorrectly titled as “Charts for Clue #3.” Only the title is wrong; the charts are the correct charts for Clue #4.
