Pattern description from Vogue Knitting, Spring/Summer 2008: “Shirley Paden’s stunning tea-length dress, knit in ‘Millefilli Fine’ from Filatura Di Crosa/Tahki.Stacy Charles, is worked in three distinct parts: a Shetland beaded-lace bodice with delicate buttons running up the back; a chevron lace skirt, which is knit circularly from the cast-on edge to the waist; and a seed-stitch waistband knit horizontally, to which the two pieces are sewn.”

“Close-fitting lace dress made in three sections, buttoned down the back with crochet shell st around armholes. Sized for Small, Medium, Large and shown in size Small on page 79.”

Materials:

  • 12 (14, 16) 1¾oz/50g balls (each approx 137yd/125m) of Filatura Di Crosa/Tahki.Stacy Charles, Inc. Millefilli Fine (cotton) in #69 white
  • One circular needle each size 8 (5mm), 32”/80cm length; size 7, 6, and 5 (4.5, 4, and 3.75mm), 24”/60cm length
  • Size D (3.0mm) crochet hook
  • 15 3/8”/10mm buttons
  • Stitch markers and holders

Gauges:

  • Note: For swatch, cast on 35 sts and work in chevron lace for 26 rows. Measure the swatch inside of selvage sts after blocking.
  • 33 sts = 9.25” / 23/5cm and 26 rows = 4-5/8” / 11.5cm using size 8 (5mm) needles
  • 33 sts = 8”/20.5cm and 26 rows = 4.5” / 11.5cm using size 7 (4.5mm) needles
  • 33 sts = 7.25” / 18.5cm and 26 rows = 4.25” / 10.5cm using size 6 (4.0mm) needles
  • 33 sts = 6.5”/16.5cm and 26 rows = 4”/10cm using size 5 (3.75mm) needles

Notes:

  2. Dress is worked in 3 separate parts, then seamed together. Skirt is worked circularly from cast on to waist.
  3. Measurements are based on blocked pieces.
  4. There are 4 needle size changes for shaping from bottom to waist. Piece is worked even.
