#216 Sprangle
To sprangle is to “spread out in different directions: branch out.” I love finding a new word that aptly describes a new pattern!
Simple cables are first set in a Seed stitch border, then a Reverse Stockinette stitch background.
As the stitches sprangle and then come back in, they get cable twisted again and staggered to form a lovely all over medallion-like design.
Knit-in Seed stitch edges echo the top and bottom edges to frame the central design.
This is a great, easy-to-learn cable pattern for intermediate to experienced cable knitters. Those newer to cables can follow the chart and/or written instructions, which only involve simple cable cross techniques.
This is an eye-catching, unisex design that can be easily knit to a longer length, if desired. Just be sure to choose a worsted weight yarn that shows great stitch definition, like the Capra (super soft cashmere blend!) yarn from Knit Picks used here.
