#23 Off-Center Top
“Cables represent ropes in traditional Arans. To further that idea, I researched nautical knots and found myself at some interesting sites about pirates. My cables are interpretations of those knots, including the wrap you might do around a quayside cleat. I played with the traditional placement of the patterning—off to one side instead of centered, as though you had shifted the sweater around the body. The rest of the smaller cables flanking the large one appear around on the back.” — Fiona Ellis
Off-center but never off-kilter, Ellis’s see-worthy pullover, knit in Bergère de France’s “Origin’ Merinos,” show-cases the bounty of cabling she describes as well as one of her knotty signatures —an I-cord that extends from ribbing within the garment to tie prettily at the neckline.
