24 Day Advent Socks
Transform your yarn advent calendar or cherished sock yarn collection into a complete pair of socks with this thoughtfully designed pattern. Perfect for holiday crafting, this pattern features precise calculations and a daily calendar to keep you on schedule for making a pair of socks by Christmas!
Please note, the calendar is only for the 2024 December Advent, but the written pattern will work no matter what year it is. The PDF will be updated with a 2025 Calendar next year!
These top-down socks combine classic striping (with tips for jogless stripes!, featuring a German Short Row heel for comfort and fit.
You will need 24 or 12 colors (the pattern is written for both options!), and a Main Color for the Cuff, Heel, and Toe.
This pattern features written instructions for a German Short Row Heel (although your preferred heel can be substituted), and is worked from the top/cuff down.
Yardage:
Main Color (Cuff, Heel, and Toe):
Size 1: 72 yds / 65.8 m
Size 2: 81 yds / 74 m
Size 3: 90 yds / 82.3 m
24 Accent Colors (Leg and Foot): Less than 5 g of each color
Alternatively, this pattern can be made with 12 colors used twice in the pattern. You will need less than 10 g of each color.
Any Superwash Merino/Nylon Sock yarn in fingering weight would work well for this pattern. I used 75/25 Superwash Merino Wool from various scrap sock yarns I had lying around!
Level: Intermediate - knitter should be very comfortable with most stitch concepts as well as sock shaping techniques.
Sizes: To fit (foot circumference: Small (20 - 22 cm/ 8 inches), Medium (23 - 24 cm/ 9 inches) , and Large (25 - 26 cm/ 10 inches)
Note: Small size is shown on model, who normally wears a ladies’ 6.5 - 7 US Shoe Size. For Medium US Shoe size 8 – 9, and Large for 10 - 11.
Gauge:
30 sts by 40 sts = stockinette in the round, blocked
Needles: US Size 1/ 2.25 mm, 9 “ / 22.5 cm circular/ DPN’s / Magic Loop OR size that meets gauge
Note: The pattern is written according to stitch count and in relation to stitch markers –this means you can use any tool/technique for making your socks that you prefer. Also note, that if you decide to use 9 inch circular needles, that you will need DPN’s for closing the toe.
