#262 Big Cable Cardigan
A BIG cable motif is all that’s needed to make this attention-getting cardigan uniquely fabulous and fun to knit! The big cable design is used as a wide motif on the back. On the fronts and sleeves, it’s equally impactful as a single cable panel.
This cardigan is knit from the bottom up in pieces. Shoulders are shaped for a nice fit that balances out the cardigan’s roomy width. Cozy shawl collar is picked up and ribbed with short row shaping to achieve its nice shape. Sleeves are picked up and knit down to the cuffs, so length can be easily adjusted.
Pockets are knit in, with only a bit of a ribbed border interfering with the lovely lines of the big cable.
The cable designs are both charted and written. In the sample, two yarns are held together throughout. One is a sport-weight alpaca, the other is a worsted-weight brushed alpaca silk. Together they knit up quickly as an aran-weight yarn on size 10 ½ needles.
FINISHED BUST MEASUREMENTS: 45 ½ (49 ½, 57 ½, 61 ½)“ / 115.5 (125.5, 146, 156) cm.
TO FIT SIZES: XS (S/M, L, 1X/2X) to fit Bust sizes 28-30 (32-38, 40-42, 44-50)“ / 71-76 (81.5-96.5, 101.5-106.5, 112-127) cm. IMPORTANT NOTE: The cardigan, knit in the alpaca and silk yarn combination (as shown) grows in length when worn. Worn length is ~27 ¾ (29 ¼, 29 ¼, 30 ½)” / 70.5 (74.5, 74.5, 77.5) cm. If you choose to use a yarn that does not have a tendency to stretch when worn, then the flat measurements (on last page) will be more accurate for the length when worn. Please keep this in mind when choosing a size/yarn.
28 sts = 6” / 15 cm and 36 rows = 7 ½“ / 19 cm in Wider Cable patt or Single Cable Panel, blocked and measured flat
