#263 Big Cable Stole
A big, bold, all-over cable pattern is truly eye-catching in this fabulously soft and warm stole.
Intricately intertwined cables are worked over the full length and width of this stole, with a simple Garter stitch border. Works up surprisingly quickly due to the Aran-weight yarn (in this case, 2 strands of thinner yarn held together throughout – one 100% alpaca and the other an alpaca and silk blend) and bulky needle size.
The cable is charted and written out, so you can follow your preference. Simple cable techniques are used and explained in the instructions. Length can easily be extended by working additional repeats of the cable pattern.
This is a cable-lover’s dream to knit and to wear as a stole or super warm and luxurious scarf.
GAUGE: 8 sts = 5 ¾“ / 14.5 cm and 36 rows = 7 ½” / 19 cm in Cable, blocked.
Yarn Substitution NOTES: An Aran-weight yarn in an Alpaca and wool blend (a sport-weight, DROPS Alpaca Mix, and a worsted-weight yarn, DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk, were held together throughout for the sample): Approximate total yardage required: 880 yds / 805 m of a single-strand yarn or per strand if holding 2 strands together. Yarn labels suggested gauges: Alpaca Mix suggested gauge is 23 sts = 4” / 10 cm on size 3–4 / 3.25-3.5mm needles. Brushed Alpaca Silk suggested gauge is 17 sts = 4” / 10 cm on size 8 / 5 mm needles.
