Tools/Materials:

  • Yarn: 60g (90m) of 41-off white, 30g (45m) of 42-light brown/beige, 20g (30m) of 43-brown
  • Needles: Japanese sizes 12 (5.7mm) and 10 (5.1mm)
  • Hook: Japanese size 8/0 (5.0mm)

Schematic Notes:

  1. Using the smaller needles, make a tubular 1x1 rib cast on according to the instructions on pp.46-47, using the crochet hook for the provisional chain: (78/2)+1 = 40 stitches. The 3 tubular rows count as row 1 of the ribbing.
  2. Continue to knit the ribbing.
  3. Switch to the larger needles and work in pattern.
  4. See p.14 for how to close off the top of the hat.
  5. Make the pompom and attach it to the hat.
