Pattern description from Knit Simple, Fall 2006: “Proud of your pup? Prove it by sharpening your stick skills, intarsia block by portable block. The sewn-together squares are bordered by four separately knit strips, which in turn are edged with single crochet.”

Knit Tip: “Backstitch embroidery adds a bit of 3-D detailing to, say, a floppy ear or a wagging tail.”

Materials:

  • Donegal Tweed by Tahki Yarns/Tahki.Stacy Charles, Inc., 3½oz/100g skeins, each approx 183yd/167m (wool)
  • 3 skeins each in #848 ecru (A) and #867 oatmeal (I)
  • 2 skeins each in #893 orange (B), #839 dk olive (C), #884 lt grey (E), #886 med grey (G) and #869 med brown (H)
  • 1 skein each in #890 anthracite (D), #895 granite (F) and #862 lt denim (J)
  • One pair size 8 (5mm) knitting needles or size to obtain gauge
  • Crochet hook size E/4 (3.5mm)
  • Bobbins
  • Tapestry needle

Notes:

  1. Work all charts in St st if not indicated otherwise (except bone and paw print charts).
  2. When changing colors, twist yarns on WS to prevent holes in work. use a separate bobbin of yarn for each block of color.
  3. Embroider extra details with back st as indicated on charts.
