#353 Textured Crochet Basket
These chunky crocheted baskets are incredibly fun and functional!
Both wonderfully tactile versions are crocheted with a large crochet hook and thick, super bulky yarn held double throughout. Version 1, shown in the cream color (top left), is entirely in basic single crochet. Version 2, shown in the solid light blue (bottom left) and in the blue tonal stripes with cream (right), is a slight variation on single crochet that creates a lovely basketweave-like effect.
Each basket starts with crocheting the oval base in the round. The sides are then crocheted up in basic single crochet or the textured stitch. Optional color change instructions are included. The baskets are then both finished with the crocheted-in handles.
This project is ideal for intermediate-level crocheters, as basic crochet experience is needed (chain stitch, single crochet, slip stitch, working in the round).
APPROXIMATE FINISHED SIZE: Oval base is 8 ¾“ / 22 cm long x 4 ¾” / 12 cm wide; sides are 5” / 12.5 cm tall (not including handles).
Approx yardage required: 160 yds / 146 m total for a single color basket, split equally into 2 balls, i.e. 80 yds / 73 m per ball – you’ll be crocheting with two strands held together throughout.
Shown in: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick Solids (80% Acrylic/20% Wool); 6 oz/170 g; 106 yds/97 m per ball: 2 balls in Fisherman (version 1) or 2 balls in Glacier (version 2).
Or choose another super bulky yarn that is similar to hold double stranded throughout.
