The basic potholders are made with a 3-round granny square of your choice. In the fourth (4th) row I did a double crochet in every stitch and in the corners I did 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc.

The backs of the potholders are a ten (10) round granny with a double crochet in every stitch and in the corners I did 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc in round 11.

When putting the fronts and backs together, you might have to “sneak” one or two of the front stitches into one back stitch. Sometimes, depending on the granny square you choose, you will have one side a few stitches larger than the other. This doesn’t effect the overall look one bit.
