5pm Hat
The 5pm Hat is knit in the round from brim to crown. Four colors work together to form a textural mix of hues. Only one color is used per round in a simple sequence of knits, purls or slipped stitches. The hat length is intentionally long so that the brim can be folded twice, showing off the wrong side texture which is just as interesting as the right side– in fact, wear this with the either side facing out. The final stitch of each round is worked in two colors which visually creates a faux seam and functionally tightens stitches when changing colors and wraps the strands being carried.
Inspired by woven fabrics and sunset hues, a palette of darkness, light, intensity and softness are reflected on the ripples of the ocean’s surface. The pattern names in the Sunset Collection refer to times throughout the year when the sun sets on the coast of Maine.
