This very special pattern stitch was created by Rick Mondragon, the editor and executive from Knitters Magazine and XRX events. I have admired the stitch for years and when I swatched it with our yarns and showed it to Rick, he said “go for it….it’s incredible.” This pattern is worked using Nuance, an elongated dye cotton blend and Volante, a solid colored blend of Merino and Cotton. The two yarns are worked in stripes. Inside of each stripe, short rows are worked to create a pattern that looks like sideways piano keys. It’s all Stock St. but with the German Style short rows, it plays with and creates the visual of stripes. The stripes become angular on the return row that involves increases and decreases to create Zig Zag. We loved this pattern so much that it is all inclusive of a Scarf, Pullover, Wrap and Poncho. One pattern has it all.
