95 North is my pattern in WEEKEND AWAY, a collaboration with my friends Bristol Ivy and Alicia Plummer. We each designed a sweater for our husbands and then rented a cabin in Maine so we could take all our pattern photos together over a long weekend.

One of the best parts of this career is the time I spend with my fellow designers, many who have become close friends over the years. The fact that these three guys also enjoy each other is a wonderful bonus and was a great excuse for this project. Working together over the winter, we put together a mix of texture, cables, and stockinette in three designs that could exist well together (if you want to knit all three!!) and offer a variety of options for those of you that might prefer one over the other.

Each sweater is named for the road we took to our little cabin!

Head to the Ravelry pages for Alicia’s Route 1 and Bristol’s 220 South, shown here with 95 North in the photos.

Craig’s request was for a pullover with a touch of colorwork, so I chose bold, stranded stripes that were fun to work without being fussy or difficult. I placed one stripe above the hem and added a few more to highlight the upper body and arms on the design.

Worsted weight wool is my favorite yarn to wear, as it works in so many seasons - and De Rerum Natura’s Gilliatt is one of the best worsteds out there! The organic merino they use is round and soft and wears beautifully over time. The sheer number of colors available in this gorgeous yarn means you can personalize your sweater easily for almost anyone, and the versatile, unisex design of 95 North works well on just about anyone you might want to knit for.

Construction
95 North is knit in the round from hem to armhole, then split into Front and Back pieces which are worked flat to shoulder. Once shoulders are seamed, sleeve and neckline stitches are picked up and worked in the round to end. The design is easily altered for personal preference, and notes on modifications are included in the pattern.

Sizing
36(40.75,45.5,50.5,55.25)(60,64.75,69.5)”
91.5(103.5,115.5,128.25,140.25)(152.5,164.5,176.5)cm

Sizes above are based on circumference around chest in final, blocked fabric. Sample is shown worn with 4”/10cm of positive ease, based on actual chest circumference.

Yardage Estimates by Size
1450(1550,1650,1750,1850)(2000,2100,2200,2300)yds 1325(1415,1510,1600,1690)(1830,1920,2010,2105)m
of background color needed. Background shown in Amarante.

200-250yds/185-230m of Accent Color A needed. Accent Color A shown in Dore.

100-150yds/90-135m each of Accent B and C needed. Accent Colors B and C shown in Cedre (B) and Poivre Blanc (C)

If substituting yarn, I suggest a worsted weight wool or wool blend in solid, tweed, or subtly heathered colorways that will show off the design well.

For a similar look and feel, use your darkest shade as the Background, and your highest contrast shade as Accent Color C. Accent Colors A and B should show up well against each other and the other shades.
