This versatile oversized shawl (or cape) is comfort knitting at its best. Knit flat from the top-down, this is a simple design which makes the most of this beautiful self-striping yarn.

Wear the finished item as a cape, a ‘waterfall cardigan’ or as an oversized shawl. Whichever way you choose, it’ll feel like a gigantic hug!

The pattern is suitable for ALL levels, including novice knitters who can knit and purl. A step-by-step photo tutorial is included for the set-up.

For more experienced knitters, this makes a thoroughly relaxing project - let your mind relax while your fingers take over.

Materials:

• 10 x 50g balls Scheepjes Secret Garden - shown in ‘Stepping Stone’ (see note below).
• 4.5mm circular needle with at least 120cm cable
• 3 x stitch markers
• 8mm crochet hook is used for a simple crochet bind off.
• Needle to sew in ends

Finished Size: 80 cm (deep) x 480 cm (bottom edge).

Note on yarn used: Scheepjes Secret Garden yarn is dyed with regular colour changes so the stripes can be (more-or-less) continuous throughout if a little preparation is done. Due to the easy start tab, the colour of BOTH ends of each ball is visible. Before knitting, decide on the best sequence to make the most of the self- striping colours. (E.g. if a ball ends with light grey and the next starts with light grey the pattern will be maintained.)

In the sample pictured, the first 8 balls of yarn were used in this way and then the border was knit from alternating light and dark tones for maximum contrast. Balls 9 and 10 were used strategically to achieve this (and cut as necessary at the end of row) with approx 25g of mid-grey yarn being left over.
