This garment is my homage to knitting techniques. There is much to read here for a knitter, but I never expected it to “speak” to someone who is not a knitter. Imagine my surprise when non-knitters admired it. Imagine the conversations that ensued when they asked me to explain it!

On the right side of the sweater, you will see blocks with letters that refer to the knitting techniques shown on the facing side. There is an “A” for Aran, “B” for bobbles, “C” for cables, “D” for duplicate stitch, “E” for embroidery, “F” for Fair Isle, “G” for Gansey, “I” for intarsia, “L” for lace, “R” for ribbing, and “S” for Scandinavian. In addition, beginning on the right front and continuing on the left and on the back, you should see blocks spelling out the knitter’s mantra, “knit 1, purl 2.”
