Inspired by Regency-era bonnets, this hat is modern enough for everyday wear but can also be dressed up for costume use. The hat is knitted from the top down with a flat top, straight sides featuring a basketweave pattern that gives texture and evokes the idea of woven straw, and a flared shortrowed brim. The piece is worked at a very tight gauge so the bonnet will keep its shape when worn. Flexible jewelry wire is threaded through the outer edge of the brim to give it just a touch more support. Be sure to follow the suggestions for choosing yarn for the best results.
