This gentle triangular shawl features a leafy lace border and a light, airy body. Perfect to pull over shoulders on cool summer nights or to wear as an indoor accessory in colder months!

As written, the shawl will give you finished project 70” wide and 21.5” at the deepest point. But instructions are included for modifying the pattern, whether it’s because you want to use a different weight yarn & needles, or because you want to end up with a shawl of a different size.

A New Leaf’s construction begins with the lace border, then stitches are picked up along the edge and the body is knit up from there. The body of this shawl is great “tv knitting”, “road trip knitting”, or “social knitting” because it is 95% stockinette. Both written and charted instructions are given for the lace border. The body (since it is almost exclusively stockinette stitch) is worked from written instructions only.

Techniques Used:
• Knitting Flat
• Yarn Overs
• Decreases: K2tog, P2tog, K3tog & SSP
• Picking up stitches along the edge of the border (through YO holes)
• Short Rows (Nothing complicated, just work a K2tog or P2tog, then turn work to the other side and continue on with the next row)
• Reverse Long-Tail Cast-On (video demonstration link given in pattern - used only for the short border CO)

Test knitters rated this an “Adventurous Beginner/Intermediate” project, saying that nothing is difficult, but that some people get nervous about picking up stitches. Speaking of testers, I owe a big thank you to ekolatch, Elin76 & DeChertsey for creating lovely projects from this pattern and offering suggestions to improve the pattern. Thanks so much, ladies!
