A Pastoral Sweater features lace cables and a tailored fit. A tribute to our knitting ancestors, who made beautiful things out of very little, simply because.

Pattern includes options for a 1x1 Rib buttonband or a picked-up double-knit band with integrated buttonholes (tutorial and additional links included).

As with any pattern, you may use any yarn that yields the specified gauge and gives you a fabric you find pleasing. Knitter’s choice. See more specifics on yarn choice below.

YARN
Approximately 1399 (1500, 1634, 1780, 1903, 2074, 2203, 2374, 2557) yards fingering weight yarn
or 1228 (1316, 1433, 1562, 1669, 1819, 1933, 2083, 2243) yards sport weight yarn

Sample 1 (fingering weight, woolen spun) shown in Brooklyn Tweed Loft (100% American Targhee-Columbia wool, 275 yards/1.76 oz; 251m/50g) in color Fossil 6 (6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10) skeins

Sample II (sport weight, worsted spun) shown in mYak Tibetan Cloud (100% Tibetan wool, 328 yards/3.52 oz; 300 m/100g) in color Wild Daisy 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7) skeins

A NOTE ON YARN CHOICE: The two samples shown were designed to illustrate the differences between woolen and worsted spun yarns. Both the yarns used are 100% wool but the difference in spinning (and the type of wool) results in two very different garments. The woolen spun sample is a lighter, warmer garment with a more carved overall appearance. The worsted spun sample is slightly less warm and a bit heavier and has more stitch definition, sheen and drape. Both are lovely.
