A Study in Contrasts
Welcome to TKGA’s newest KAL beginning January 17, 2026.
A Study in Contrasts is available for free to all knitters during our KAL. After 2/26/26, the pattern will be available in Cast On magazine for TKGA members only. Not a member yet, you can join here: https://tkga.org/membership/
Enjoy the friendly, supportive, social aspect of knitting with others as we knit a seamless, top-down pullover with options so you can create your own version. Choose from long or short sleeve, cropped or standard length, slip stitch or mosaic colorwork.
Now’s the time to order your yarn, gather your supplies, cast on and get ready for our Launch Party with Fiberchats on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2pm ET/11 am PT. Visit https://tkga.org/kal/ for Zoom link coming in December 25.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of designing knitwear is playing with contrasts, whether it’s colors, stitch patterns and textures, yarn textures, or any combination of the three. With this sweater duo, I decided to play with contrasting colors as well as texture patterns.
I wanted to pair a painted yarn with a lighter solid color for the first pullover, and with a darker solid color for the second pullover to see how the colors played together. The long-sleeve, standard-length pullover with the lighter solid color, featuring a two-color slip-stitch pattern, is bright and vibrant. And the short-sleeve, cropped pullover with the darker solid color, worked in a mosaic stitch pattern, is more subdued and restful.
