Two poncho designs embracing the granny square, a quintessential crochet pattern popular in the 1960s when our story takes place. Treble crochet stitches make the fabric more open and airy giving a modern twist on this classic style. Adelaide’s best friend and hippie, Frankie, needed her own, so you get not one but two designs, both using the same stitches and corner increases.

I ran my fingers along the hem of her striped poncho. “This is new.”
With her signature crooked grin, Frankie lifted a paper bag, “I brought you enough yarn to make one. I figured you might need it with the weather getting cold. If, uh, you can go outside.”
