Adventitious Sweater is based on my previous Adventitious Top knitting pattern. While the short sleeved top is worked from the bottom up with one strand of lace yarn, the long sleeved sweater is worked from the top down using 2 strands of lace yarn held together - to match a fingering weight gauge. The fun construction and the lace and cable details keep the knitter engaged, but the stockinette keeps you relaxed. It’s really a fun make and versatile to style as well. The split hem is worked for a bit longer at the back and you’ll learn an interesting way to create a neat split in your knitting with a video tutorial. The wider sleeves leave room for either layering or for that romantic blousy look.

GAUGE
24 sts x 28 rows - in charted pattern in 4 in after blocking.
24 sts x 28 rows in stockinette (flat and in the round) in 4 in after blocking.
Recommended needles: US4 (main needles) and US2 (ribbing needles) circular needles. You will be using the main size needle to 1) work the body - choose a cable long enough to do that comfortably, and 2) work the sleeves - either use a long cable utilizing magic loop method, a short 12” cable or DPNs. Ribbing needles - you’ll be using them on the neckband, hem and sleeve cuffs, so choose them according to the same way as the main needles, except the cable doesn’t need to be that long as the hem front and back are worked separately.
Notions: Cable needle (or work the tiny cables without one), tapestry needle (for weaving in ends) and scrap yarn to hold stitches.
