The eponymous pattern in the Affirmation collection, this circular shawl is intended for the more experienced knitter. It incorporates original stitch patterns inspired by positive, affirming words to wrap the wearer in knitted positivity. The Focus, Believed, Power and Determined stitch patterns also feature in other patterns in the Affirmation collection.

The shawl is worked in the round from the centre out, starting with a circular cast-on (a link to one is given in the pattern). The pattern is written giving both charted and written instructions. It is NOT necessary to work from charts to work this design.

The finished shawl has a diameter of 48” (122cm) after aggressive blocking. Pattern tension here is best described across a pattern repeat. One repeat of the Focus chart should measure 2¾”/7cm wide and 3”/7.5cm high. Achieving stated tension is not vital but may affect the finished size and yardage requirements of your shawl.

You will need:1500 yards (1372m) light fingering weight yarn (sample is knitted in Wollmeise Lace-garn)
3.5mm (US 4) circular needles
3.5mm (US 4) DPNs to start, or use Magic Loop technique
Stitch marker, to mark end of round
Optional stitch markers to mark between pattern repeats (up to 32 required)

You need to be able to: work a circular cast-on (link is given in pattern to online tutorial), work lace in the round from either charted or written instructions using common stitches (yarn overs, k2tog, ssk, centred double decreases)
