Afghan Refugee Slipper Socks
The traditional pattern of the original slipper socks that Mimi Seyferth received as a gift (shown at right) served as the inspiration for this version. Both the original socks and the project socks feature diamond motifs in the long, narrow, rectangular field of the sock body.
Difficulty Intermediate
Finished Size 9.25” foot circumference and 10” long from back of heel to tip of toe; foot length is not adjustable.
Yarn Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 Sport (100% Peruvian highland wool; 164 yd/1.75 oz): #7803 magenta (A) and #8555 black (B), 2 skeins each.
Needles Size 2 (2.75 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Marker; waste yarn for heel; tapestry needle.
Gauge 34 sts and 37 rnds = 4” in colorwork patt.
Notes These socks are worked in the round from the toe up, with a peasant heel.
