I loved the meditative quality of knitting the Against the Grain - The Big One. A beautiful cable, reminiscent of knots in wood grain, twists and curls up the side. Needles click and swish the in comforting rhythm of the reversible 2/2 ribbing that makes up the body of this triangular shawl. The large, blanket like shawl this pattern creates is perfect for wrapping up during those deep winter days or a cozy companion when sitting outside on a chilly spring evening, enjoying the last rays of sun and the glory of fresh air.

The instructions are both charted and written, but you won’t need them for long as it’s easy to memorize. Made with just 3 skeins of BSF Extra, this Aran-weight shawl works up fast and will be keeping you warm in no time!

Size
Wingspan: 75”/190 cm
Depth: 25”/64 cm

Gauge
15 sts & 24 rows = 4”/10 cm in 2/2 ribbing

Yarn
650 yds/595 m of Aran weight yarn - I recommend a round yarn (3 plies or more) for a crisp cable.

Recommended Yarn:
Blue Sky Fibers Extra (55% Baby Alpaca/45% Fine Merino) 218 yds/199 m, 150g - 3 skeins in Shale

Remember! Weight and yardage recommendation are a well calculated starting point. Both are effected by many factors like fiber type, spin, ply, and more, so be sure to give yourself some wiggle room!
