Notes from the Designer:

Inspired by the combination of optimism in the colorful traces of an agate stone and the strength it holds, I made the Agate Shoulders poncho to resemble hopefulness and toughness that always push us forward. This beautiful poncho can be worn over a blouse or a dress for a beautiful, layered and snuggly look.

  • Click here to watch a video tutorial showing how to work one of the sections in this pattern.
  • The sample shown used approximately 2,575 yds (2,355 m) total: Color 1) 399 yds (365 m); 2) 399 yds (365 m); 3) 201 yds (184 m); 4) 211 yds (193 m); 5) 232 yds (212 m); 6) 82 yds (75 m); 7) 295 yds (270 m); 8) 368 yds (336.5 m); 9) 125 yds (114 m); 10) 263 yds (240.5 m).
  • Please read through the entire pattern before beginning to ensure understanding of the stitches and construction.
  • The Sdc counts as a dc throughout the pattern.
  • Some rows begin/end with a ch-1, which is only used for height and does not count as a stitch (noted in the instructions).
  • The poncho is made up of eight square and two rectangular units. They are joined together using slsts before adding a neckline border and fringe (optional).
  • The pattern is designed as One Size Fits All, but rows can be removed/added to both rectangles (Part A) to decrease/increase the neck opening.
  • The two rectangles (Part A) each use an entire skein for the MC. If you choose to add rows or are concerned with running out of yarn, you will need an extra skein of each. Another option is to use only one color as the MC for both, which should only require three total skeins of a MC.
  • Part A uses yarn bobbins for the CCs. If following the pattern as written, each 3-stitch column requires about 5-5.2 grams of yarn. Creating hand-wound balls weighing 6 grams each should be sufficient for each bobbin.
  • Stitch counts are in brackets at the end of each row.
