Aidan's Call
Available at LoveCrafts
Meet Aidan. He’s a grade 8 student with a passion for sports and the outdoors. He’s has a sneaky sense of humor that always seems to catch you off guard. He enjoys shopping and cooking and even cleaning (but not for his parents, ha!).
Aidan is also severely Autistic. He cannot read or write. His motor functions are so poor he can’t even use sign language. Studies say he will never progress much beyond a Kindergarten level of learning. He is “non-verbal”.
Aidan is currently in speech therapy, once every two or three weeks. He would benefit from sessions several times a week, but I know no one who could afford that. All proceeds from this pattern will go directly into AIdan’s speech therapy account. We thank you so much for helping.
This cowl came about this past summer. The school no longer encourages scarves in the winter as they’re “choking hazards”. A few years ago one of the mom’s made polar fleece neck warmers for all the kids. Aidan was so attached to his and then unfortunately lost it. He asked, “Mummy make?”. Now, Aidan maybe Autistic, but he has quite high standards. It had to be “so, so, so, so, soft”. It had to have “lines up. down.” for decoration. It had to be “no tight”, but for Mummy’s well being, it also had to be warm. Oh! And it had to be blue… kinda…. We put our heads together and this is what we came up with.
