Alater is a stockinette stitch shawl knitted top down featuring mesh lace and modified 1/1-ribbing.

Yarn:

2 skeins of any fingering weight yarn 400 m/ 437 yds per 100 g, one in colour A and one in colour B. The sample was knitted with Chester Wool Company’s Merino Silk Singles (70% merino, 30% silk, 400 m/100 g).

The yardage is an estimate, the sample shawl used 95 g of colour A (brown) and 60 g of colour B (blue).

If you run out of yarn, you can always add more stripes to the border with yarn B. If you want to make the shawl bigger, add more rows to the border.

Needles etc:

3.75 mm/ US 5 100 cm/ 40” or longer circular needle.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
A crochet hook, size close to the needle size.
Eight stitch markers.

Gauge:

19 sts x 34 rows = 10 x 10 cm/ 4” x 4” in stockinette stitch after blocking.

Finished measurements:

After blocking 196.5 x 61 cm / 78 x 24”
