“I love tinkering and playing with stitches. Figuring out how they’re structured and seeing what happens when modified. Over the years of working on knit and crochet two-color mosaic stitches, two favorites that emerged were this crochet dot patterning and knit waves sequence. They form a plush, squishy fabric, created by using a simple colorwork stitch, and make for an interesting mix of physical and visual textures. It was a natural fit to pair these two stitches together in a design.

Working up a fabric using multiple strands gives a drape and plushness that’s unique to the combination of bases used. I knew a lace-weight held double would be a great match for crochet. Using one strand of lace with a slightly heavier base together in the knit section does two things: allows for colors to gently transition, creating continuity from section to section; and the change in base combinations gives the knit section a little extra plumpness.”

Aliquot combines crochet and knit techniques. You begin with a 2-color crochet section, alternating colors. You then work a single-color knitted welt for added visual contrast to transition into the patterned 2-color knit section, before working another welt. There are 3 different sizes / versions. Size 1 is the simplest, Size 2 is twice the circumference, and Size 3 can be reversed to show the crochet or knit side. You can also choose to make Aliquot crochet-only or knit-only, and to give the cowl a mobius twist before seaming the ends of the tube (Sizes 1 and 2 only).
