Alma Bundle & Save: Get 15% off when you buy both the Alma Mitts & Alma Sock patterns! Add both to your cart and the coupon will be applied automatically. This savings will also apply if you have previously purchased the Alma Socks pattern.
The Alma Mitts are inspired by the Tudor court of Henry VIII and Hilary Mantel’s novels Wolf Hall, Bring Up the Bodies, and The Mirror and the Light. The design features a panel of seed stitches framed by panels of 1-by-1 cables. It is the sister design to the Alma Socks pattern. The engaging stitch work will have you saying, “just one more row!”
The pattern includes charted and written instructions. The Alma Mitts are knit seamlessly from the bottom to the top ribbing.
Yarn
One 100-gram skein of fingering weight sock yarn.
Suggested yarn: La Bien Aimée BFL Tough Sock base (75% Bluefaced Leicester, 25% nylon; 465 yards/ 425 meters/ 100g). Sample is knit in the color way Honey Rose.
Many of my test knitters used partial (below 75g) skeins of fingering weight yarn from their stash, so this would be a great way to make use of leftovers!
Suggested Needle Size
US size 1 (2.25 mm) needle
Pattern is written using the Magic Loop method, but can easily be adapted for DPNs or 9” circular needles.
Gauge
34 sts x 46 rows = 4 inches in stockinette in the round after blocking.
Sizing 1 (2, 3):
1 (56 stitches) approx. 6 inches / 17.5 cm circumference at the widest part of the hand
2 (64 stitches) – approx. 7 inches / 20 cm circumference at the widest part of the hand
3 (72 stitches) – approx. 8 inches / 22.5 cm circumference at the widest part of the hand
Pattern is written with between 0 and 0.5 inches (2 cm) of negative ease.
Finished mitten from wrist to upper cuff should measure approximately 8 inches / 22.5 cm.
