Amaru bag
The bag is worked in the round as a tube, beginning at the bottom and working upwards. When
complete, the top half of the tube is folded to the inside, forming the lining. On the outside,
stranded colorwork motifs create rings of geometric designs and a message resembling
ticker-tape.
The six motifs (3 geometric, 3 words) range from 8 sts to 41 sts wide, so many rounds will end
with incomplete pattern repeats. This is OK; the beginning/end of round will be the side seam,
and partial words or patterns will not be conspicuous.
If desired or helpful, use stitch markers to separate each pattern repeat, shifting them as necessary
each time you begin a new motif.
To resize, just vary the number of stitches cast on, ensuring it’s divisible by 4. The minimum
stitches needed are 84 for two complete repeats of “RESPECT,” ensuring all three words are fully
visible on the bag’s front. Expanding the bag should consider the yarn weight and potential
distortion from its contents.
