American Brilliant

A rewarding project for knitters who enjoy geometric lace and heirloom-quality designs. American Brilliant is a celebration of two timeless crafts—knitting and glass artistry. Inspired by my friend, Pat Richey’s collection of American Brilliant Cut Glass, each block in this elegant throw is based on a traditional cut-glass motif, transforming the sparkle and geometry of crystal into stitches.
The centerpiece of the throw features the Comet Pattern, inspired by the appearance of Halley’s Comet in 1910, surrounded by a field of intricate Strawberry Diamonds. Ten Hob Star blocks frame the center, their many points meeting to create the distinctive hobnail effect that gave the pattern its name. Four Diamond motif blocks and additional Fan motifs complete the design, while the corners showcase the beautiful Hawkes Kahinoor Triangle pattern.

Each block is knit individually and then assembled to create a striking throw rich in texture, history, and geometric beauty.
