Amethyst” is a summer top worked top-down using the contiguous method. The shoulders and the sides are embellished with a small lace pattern adding a refined elegance to this top.
The sweater is knit starting from the neckline: the necessary number of stitches is cast-on and a small, twisted rib border is knit.
Next the back and V-neck are shaped using a series of short rows. While knitting this first section, increases are made every row, on both the right side and the wrong side of the work. At the same time, the small lace pattern is started at the shoulders.
When the neckline is sufficiently shaped, the knitting continues in the round until the yoke is the right size.
Next, the front and back are separated and worked flat, separately; the shoulder stitches are transferred to a piece of waste yarn.
At this point, the underarm stitches are cast-on and knitting continues in the round to form the body. The same small lace pattern used for the shoulders is also knit down the sides of the sweater. Right after the joint, decreases are added to shape the sleeves. Once this step has been completed, knitting continues in stockinettestitch until the desired length is reached.
The body is completed with another small, twisted rib border.
Once the body of the sweater has been completed, the stitches along the armholes are picked up and the short sleeves are worked in twisted rib.
