“Amma” means “granny” in Icelandic and is a fitting name for this super simple top made from two granny squares. Worked up in lace-weight yarn for a delicate look, this pattern is easy to customize and makes a great project for confident beginners making their first garment. Side slits add interest and ensure a comfortable fit around the hips.

A sleeved sweater option adds further basic stitches to this simple construction to create a satisfying and highly wearable piece. The combination of delicate lace-weight yarn and three-quarter sleeves add the perfect amount of “pretty” to dress up your favourite jeans. Instructions are also included for long sleeves.

This design is based on the free Amma “recipe” I published on my blog several years ago, but with extended sizing and added sweater option.

NOTE: The free basic “recipe” that this top is based on is still available on my blog here. These guidelines are for the top only (without sleeve variations) in one size that can be adjusted for smaller or larger sizes by adjusting the size of the granny squares (note that width and length will decrease or increase at the same rate when making squares smaller or larger).
