An Aran for Füles
This Aran sweater is sized to fit 18” dolls, such as those from the American Girls range. The cable patterns are based on coordinating Aran sweaters that my mother knitted for my husband and me in the year following our marriage. The 25 stitches of the cable pattern should measure 4” wide. I have incorporated some waist/hip shaping in the design and it is made in 4 pieces then seamed together, with a ribbed edging picked up and knit in the round to finish the v-neckline.
The ribbed hems of the body and sleeves and the neckline are knit on smaller needles (size 4 (3.5mm) or approximately 1 size smaller than the larger needles needed to obtain gauge), the rest of the sweater is knit using larger needles (size 5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge).
The pattern uses both written instructions and charts - but they do not overlap - the written instructions are not charted and the charted instructions are not written out. The pattern specifies three needle bindoff for joining the front and back pieces at the shoulders, but you can also bind off and seam the pieces together.
