Anaell is my second design in collaboration with The Fibre Co., through their yarn support programme for indie designers. I feel grateful that I was able to work again with their beautiful sock yarn, Amble, this time in the Heathland colourway. The yarn has everything that a long-lasting sock needs: durability, softness, and flexibility, and it comes in so many beautiful colours. I highly recommend it for your next sock project!
These socks are knitted from the cuff down to the toe. They begin with the stretchy and not-so-common Picot Cast-On for a neat edge. The cuff is worked in 1x1 Twisted rib stitch for elasticity. The leg uses an easy-to-memorise and engaging lace pattern. The heel flap is worked in Stocking stitch to keep it thin enough for warmer weather. After decreasing to create the gusset, work the foot, then finish the socks with the no-graft Short, Medium or Long Round Toe.
Sizing information
1 (2, 3)
or to fit a circumference measurement at the ball of the foot of 19.75 (24.5, 28.5) cm / 8 (9.75, 11.5)”.
or to fit the following foot lengths (adjustable) (measured from the back of the heel to the tip of the toe): 21 (25.75, 29.75) cm / 8.5 (10.25, 12)”.
Finished leg circumference
17.5 (21.75, 26.25) cm / 7 (8.75, 10.5)” (Note: for a snug fit, the socks are intentionally 2.5 cm / 1” smaller than the wearer’s leg circumference).
Finished leg length (adjustable) (measured from the edge of the cuff to the bottom of the heel): 16.5 (17.5, 18.25) cm / 6.5 (6.75, 7.25)”.
Finished foot circumference
17.25 (22, 26) cm / 7 (8.75, 10.5)” (Note: for a snug fit, the socks are intentionally 2.5 cm / 1” smaller than the wearer’s foot circumference).
Finished foot length (adjustable) (measured from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe):
19.75 (24.5, 28.5) cm / 8 (9.75, 11.5)” (Note: for best fit, the socks are intentionally 1.25 cm / 0.5” shorter than the wearer’s foot. Take this into account if you adjust the foot length).
Sample in picture shown in size 2 with Medium Round Toe.
Yarn / Yardage
Yardage is calculated for working the Medium Round Toe and includes 15% of extra yarn. Please note that size and yardage will be affected when making any adjustments on the socks.
