Purchase the Anning Cowl together with the Anning Hat for $7.00!
The Anning Cowl uses mosaic knitting to create a colorful pattern of woven squares. It’s named after Mary Anning, who excavated the first Ichthyosaurus skeleton when she was eleven years old in Lyme Regis, England, and went on to become a self-taught paleontologist. The mosaic sections of this cowl remind me of the different strata of the earth.
Knitters can choose to use a neutral color with a gradient yarn (as in the sample), two contrasting colors, or any number of other combinations. This project could be the chance to go stashbusting and use up some leftover bits. Only one color of yarn is worked at a time.
The cowl is knit in the round using only knits, purls, and slipped stitches, making it a fast, fun project!
Exact gauge is not critical but will affect the size of the finished cowl and the amount of yarn needed.
