Ann’s Scarf Hat
This hat begins with an 8 stitch pinhole cast on and uses YO’s worked through the back loop to create crown increases.
The main body of the hat uses a simple garter/ k2p2 rib pattern to create a reversible pattern than will be worked throughout to create the attached scarf sections.
Sized to fit head circumference:
18-20, (20-22, 22-24)”/46-51, (51-56, 56-61) cm
Height:
7, (8, 9)”/18, (20, 23)cm
The scarf sections have a 3-stitch edge pattern that is worked the same on every row. It begins with a slip stitch holding the yarn IN FRONT of the work, keep the yarn IN FRONT and knit the next stitch. This will create a small yo between the first and “second” stitch, At the end of each row that small yo will be knitted together with the last stitch of the row. This gives a double-chain edge stitch that makes the scarf sections truly reversible. The remaining stitches will continue in the 8 row pattern used in the body of the hat but worked flat instead of in the round. Markers are used to indicated where the edge stitches begin and end on each row.
My friend Ann came to me requesting a pattern that was a hat with an attached scarf, not a hood or snood but a snug hat for cold morning when she’s out caring for her alpacas. Did I mention she is the owner of Alpacas ‘d Auxvasse? She supplied the beautiful yarn from her animals and hand dyed by her in glorious colors!
I would encourage. you check out her Facebook page or visit her at the farm.
