Antietam
To celebrate Memorial Day I’m offering my Antietam Pattern for half price ($4.00) until midnight tomorrow night!
All the money raised will go directly to the Colonial Williamsburg Fund. Which will directly support the mission “That the Future May Learn from the Past.”
Please consider purchasing this pattern, donating to the Colonial Williamsburg Fund! Also, if you can, share this post so more people will be able to help!
Antietam is a circular Pi shawl that I designed for a new class I teach entitled, The Civil War Shawl and now I want to share it with you all!
The shawl is worked from the center out using four simple lace patterns to achieve a dramatic and gorgeous affect. It is a ‘true pi shawl’ with distinct points of increasing. I’ve sampled stitches inspired by those that appeared in an 1863 issue of Godey’s Lady’s Book.
Each section is a different lace pattern with stitch counts given, for you to reuse in the sampler or to work a sampler scarf, if desired. Lace patterns are simple enough that charts are not needed and rest rows are provided after each lace row…so none of that crazy double sided lace people talk about.
Antietam can be worked in any weight yarn just purchase a sufficient amount to make the size desired. Choose a needle size 1-2 sizes larger than that recommended on the ball band.
Also included is an article on Godey’s Lady’s Book and the incredibly interesting view Godey had on the Civil War, which included ignoring its existence. The PDF is 12 pages long, includes high quality photos of each stitch and the shawl as a whole. Also included is a Bibliography for further reading.
Hey! LYS owners! Want me to come and teach about the Civil War Shawl and how to knit Antietam? Please contact me!
