Any Which Way is a transformer accessory for chilly days, worked in the round from the bottom up. The stitch pattern has a medium density, giving you just the right balance: it traps warmth while still allowing for a nice bit of airflow.

I’ve included four sizes, written step by step and designed to fit head circumferences of 53 (56) 59 (62) cm / 20.9 (22) 23.2 (24.4) in. But feel free to go beyond! The pattern is easy to adapt – try tripling the stitch count for a long infinity scarf, or halve the height for a cozy headband.

There’s one final detail you can add – or skip – depending on your mood: a drawcord at the top edge. Use it to gently cinch the piece for a snug fit under your chin, or pull it tight to transform your cowl into a hat – regular or ponytail-friendly.

The pattern includes written instructions (US crochet terms) and a graph chart for visual makers.

It’s designed for DK weight yarn (light weight) with a gauge of 18 sc x 20 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) using a 4 mm (G-6) hook. You’ll need approximately 65 (75) 100 (135) g / 2.3 (2.6) 3.5 (4.8) oz of yarn, depending on the size. My solid version was made with Superwash DK by SweetGeorgia, and the striped one with Ambiance by YarnArt.

Skill level: Intermediate – but don’t worry! Any stitches that go beyond the basics come with step-by-step explanations.

Make as many as your heart desires – as much warmth as you wish to share. Let your cowls-turned-hats each take on their own character, ready to find just the right person to keep cozy.

Happy hooking! ✨
