Apertura
Apertura is a substantial, yet light, striped triangular wrap. Its asymmetrical shape is created by strategically- placed increases and allows it to be wrapped comfortably around the shoulders without too many long ends. The simple Stockinette and Garter stitch stripe pattern reverses part of the way through the shawl to create the effect of a photo negative of the top half. Simple, soothing, airy, yet warm, Apertura is the perfect springtime knit.
Specific yarn requirements:
Madelinetosh Tosh Sock (100% Merino Wool; 395 yds/ 361 m per 115g); 1 skein each of Fog (MC) and Dustweaver (CC)
Or, 790 yds/ 720 m of fingering weight yarn: 395 yds/ 360 m each of 2 colors
Needles:
US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needle at least 32”/ 80 cm long, or size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge:
16 sts & 26 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in Stockinette St
Meeting this exact gauge is not crucial, but any major differences will affect the size of the finished shawl.
